lines from chapter 12 - Compelling, dynamic Style:
Positive
statements make for stronger writing than negative ones. Instead
of "She didn't like Pumpkin soup," you can write "She hated pumpkin soup,"
but you can do better. "The very smell of pumpkin soup made her want
to heave." You reinforced the statement by using a sensory detail
(smell) and you painted a lasting picture in the reader's mind with an
